Three Brooklyn Restaurants to Enjoy This Summer

From mussels to Michelin Stars, the serene neighborhood surrounding Instrata Brooklyn Heights offers residents a host of dining options. Here are three of the best to take advantage of this summer, courtesy of the Instrata Concerige:

1. Colonie

127 Atlantic Ave.—A five-minute walk from Instrata Brooklyn Heights

Two blocks from the East River and perched on the edge of Brooklyn Heights, this neighborhood hotspot serves locally sourced American fare. The bar offers a curated selection of natural and sustainable wines, along with regional craft beers and fresh cocktails. This sociable spot features an open kitchen, beautiful wood accents and naturally flavorful dishes. Guests can expect to enjoy offerings such as Heirloom Tomatoes, Sea Scallops, Blistered Duck Egg and Zephyr Squash.

2. Jack the Horse Tavern

66 Hicks St.—10-min. walk

Nestled in the center of Brooklyn Heights, this local gathering place prides itself on blending the “friendliness of a London pub, intimacy and sophistication of a French bistro, and food of a first-rate New York City restaurant.” Crowd favorites include the smoked Macaroni and Cheese and the Big Bowl of Maine Mussels.

Just next door, The Oyster Room, sister to Jack the Horse Tavern, serves oysters, and hot and cold small plates. Enjoy $1 oysters from 5:15 to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday (closed Sundays).

3. Aska

47 S. 5th St. – 35 mins. via the B67 bus

Make dinner an occasion at this exceptional two-Michelin-star restaurant helmed by Swedish Executive Chef Fredrik Berselius. Located within a restored 1860s warehouse at the edge of the Williamsburg Bridge, 10-table Aska is famous for its seasonal tasting menus comprised of locally sourced ingredients. The $215 10-course tasting menu can be matched with an optional $115 beverage pairing. Reservations are required.

For a somewhat more casual evening, guests may opt for Aska’s Cellar Bar & Garden, offering specialty cocktails, wine and beer.

Aska reopens Aug. 8.
